Project Summary -


The project involved the construction of a new £4 million state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre which will open the door for world class treatments and training at Birmingham’s Heartlands Hospital.


The theatre, one of only three of its kind in the UK and the first in the Midlands, sees the hospital, part of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, confirm its position as the regional centre for vascular surgery.


The theatre centres around a GE Discovery 740 robotic machine which utilises 3D technology and can be used for a range of specialist procedures including keyhole Endovascular aneurysm repair.

The project incorporated the Supply, Installation Test & Commissioning of Electrical and Associated Services, including -

  • Isolation, Strip Out, Diversion and Modifications to Existing Services.
  • Sub Mains Distribution System, including new Main 1600 amp LV Essential / Non Essential Switch Panel and associated sub mains cabling to local distribution boards.
  • Uninterruptable Power Supplies [UPS].
  • Isolated Power Supply Units [IPS].
  • Special Location Earthing System.
  • Lightning Protection & Transient Surge Protection Systems.
  • Lighting, including examination, operation & emergency lighting systems.
  • Small Power System.
  • Fire Alarm System.
  • Staff Alarm Call System.
  • Access Control System.
  • Voice and Data Systems.
  • Intercom & Piped Music System.
  • All Associated Containment Systems.
  • Electrical Attendance on Mechanical Services.

R.D. Jukes & Co. Ltd. worked closely with the services Design Consultant and Principal Contractor to successfully deliver this project for the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.
