Royal Orthopaedic Hospital - Modular Theatre Birmingham

Provision of additional theatre and ward capacities on site of the previously demolished HDU, for four theatres with supporting ward accommodation in a modular construction.

The project involved the provision of new services infrastructure to 4 No. modular constructed theatres complete with associated ward, ancillary areas, two storey plant room extension and link corridor connecting the existing hospital to the new facility. The modular theatres were delivered to site and installed by a specialist provider on behalf of the Trust to provide a completely serviced building.

This infrastructure project works entailed the co-ordination, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical and associated services infrastructure and scheduled below is a brief list of the services provided:-

• In-situ LV distribution switchboard extension in substation No 3
• Supply and installation of new MCCB switch panel served via new sub mains cabling from the existing low voltage supply
• New primary & secondary sub mains distribution, containment systems, earthing & bonding
• Fire detection, alarm connected and adapted to existing systems
• Fire alarm network connection
• Nurse / staff call system network connection
• Lighting, emergency & external lighting system
• Emergency lighting network connection
• Fibre optic data connection to the data centres
• Emergency lighting network connection
• Utility & mechanical power supplies
• Access control system
• Building management system network connection
• Testing, commission, labelling, certification and provision of operations and maintenance manuals.
