Project Overview
R.D. Jukes & Co. Ltd. delivered the electrical installation and associated services for the new Community Diagnostic Hub at George Eliot Hospital.
The single-storey, purpose-built facility was developed to increase diagnostic capacity and help reduce waiting times and the backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new hub includes consulting rooms, pulmonary function rooms, X-ray facilities and ultrasound rooms, creating a modern environment for the delivery of essential diagnostic services.

The Challenge
As a purpose-built healthcare facility incorporating specialist diagnostic areas, the project required a comprehensive electrical installation capable of supporting both clinical and general building services.
The installation needed to meet the specific requirements of a healthcare environment while bringing together power distribution, medical earthing, lighting, life safety, communications, security and patient systems within a coordinated programme.
Our Solution
R.D. Jukes provided the supply, installation, testing, commissioning and certification of the electrical services throughout the new facility.
The works included cable containment and support infrastructure, a new MCCB switch panel, sub-mains distribution, MCB distribution boards, earthing and bonding, together with lightning and surge protection.
Specialist healthcare infrastructure included medical earthing systems and special-location earth reference bars, alongside utility and mechanical power supplies.
A complete lighting installation was delivered, including internal and external lighting, occupancy-based automatic controls and emergency lighting. The emergency lighting system communicates through a wireless mesh network to a remote gateway, enabling automated testing, monitoring and reporting.
R.D. Jukes also installed the fire detection and alarm systems, nurse call system, Cat 6 structured voice and data network, fibre backbone cabling, access control, CCTV, audio-frequency induction loops and television/FM signal distribution.
The nurse call works included both the installation of a new system and the extension and integration of existing infrastructure, helping provide a coordinated solution across the facility.

Collaborative Delivery
Throughout the project, R.D. Jukes worked collaboratively with the designers, Principal Contractor, client representatives, other contractors and its wider supply chain.
This coordinated approach ensured the numerous electrical and specialist systems could be successfully integrated, tested and commissioned as part of the wider construction programme.
The Results
The completed Community Diagnostic Hub provides George Eliot Hospital with modern, purpose-built diagnostic facilities supported by reliable and fully integrated electrical infrastructure.
From power distribution and medical earthing through to nurse call, emergency lighting, data and security, R.D. Jukes delivered a comprehensive electrical package designed around the operational and clinical requirements of the new facility.
