Worcester Bosch Group

Project Overview
R.D. Jukes & Co. Ltd. was appointed to deliver the electrical services associated with the refurbishment and second-floor extension of Nuffield College in Oxford.
The project involved the design, supply and installation of a comprehensive electrical package, combining new power distribution infrastructure with lighting, life safety and communication systems to support the upgraded college facilities.

The Challenge
The project required a comprehensive electrical installation capable of supporting several different environments within the new development, from modern office and meeting spaces through to workshop and storage areas.
New electrical infrastructure also needed to integrate effectively with the existing manufacturing facility. This included supplying the new MCCB switch panel from the existing building’s main Low Voltage switch panel within the rooftop plant room and distributing power throughout the new extension.
Alongside reliable power distribution, the project required modern lighting controls, emergency and life safety systems, communications infrastructure and accessibility provisions to create a safe and functional working environment.
Our Solution
R.D. Jukes delivered the complete electrical services package, beginning with a new MCCB switch panel supplied from the existing main LV switch panel. A comprehensive 400V distribution system was installed, incorporating main switchboards, sub-distribution boards, busbar trunking, metered MCB lighting and power distribution boards, final circuitry and associated cabling and containment infrastructure.
Lighting installations were delivered throughout the development, with automatic controls incorporating presence detection and daylight dimming to improve energy efficiency. An addressable automatic testing emergency lighting system was installed alongside external lighting covering the perimeter, rooftop maintenance routes and the building’s main entrances.
The wider package included fire alarm and life safety systems with provision for alarm receiving connections, access control, Cat 6 structured cabling with copper and fibre backbone infrastructure, and systems designed to meet Approved Document M requirements, including accessible WC alarms. R.D. Jukes also delivered utility power connections for FF&E equipment, lightning protection and surge suppression.
All electrical systems were fully tested and commissioned on completion, with comprehensive Operations and Maintenance documentation provided as part of the final handover.

The Results
R.D. Jukes successfully delivered a comprehensive electrical installation to support Worcester Bosch Group’s expanded office and workshop facilities.
The completed project provided the power, lighting, communications, security and life safety infrastructure required across the new development, with modern automatic lighting controls and testing systems incorporated to support efficient ongoing operation and maintenance.
The project demonstrates R.D. Jukes’ ability to design and deliver integrated electrical services within existing commercial and manufacturing environments, coordinating new infrastructure with operational facilities from initial design through to final commissioning.
